There is no service. HerdrChat is a free, open-source app that runs entirely on your phone and connects to computers you already own. No accounts, no subscription, no servers of ours in the path. These terms are short because there is genuinely little to agree to.
HerdrChat is released under the Apache License 2.0. That licence governs the software itself — your rights to use, modify and redistribute it — and it takes precedence over anything on this page that appears to contradict it.
HerdrChat connects to machines using credentials you supply, and runs commands there on your instruction. You are responsible for the machines you connect to, for having the right to access them, and for what the agents you start on them do.
That last part is worth stating plainly. This app exists to run coding agents with real access to real computers. An agent can modify files, install software and run arbitrary commands within the permissions you grant it. Choosing those permissions — and reviewing what an agent proposes before approving it — is your call, not the app's.
The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. This is the same disclaimer the Apache 2.0 licence makes, restated here so it is not a surprise.
In practice: HerdrChat may lose a connection, fail to deliver a notification, or show you a conversation late. Do not use it as the only monitor for something that matters.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the authors and contributors are not liable for any damages arising from the use of this software — including damage to systems you connect to, loss of data, or work performed by agents you started through it.
HerdrChat is free. There is nothing to purchase, no subscription and no paid tier. Equally, there is no commitment to maintain it, ship updates, or keep it available on any app store. If it is ever discontinued, the source remains under Apache 2.0 and you can keep building it yourself.
HerdrChat is a client for herdr, and is used alongside tools such as Claude Code and Tailscale. Those are separate products with their own terms; nothing here modifies them, and none of their authors are party to this document.

If these terms change, the date above changes with them. This page lives in the same repository as the app, so any change is visible in the project's history alongside the code it describes.
